Field Survey of Potential for Biomass Use for Energy in Georgia
Under the capital grant agreement with UNDP and as a continuation of WEG’s previous project on assessment of wood and agriculture residue biomass energy potential in Georgia WEG will conduct a field study of potential for biomass use for energy purpose and develop a website to promote the use of biomass for heating. The study will concentrate on the locations with higher abundance and higher variety of waste biomass to assure the sustainability of operations of potential future businesses
The objectives of the field study include:
- Assess the amounts of residual biomass in place and its conditions
- Identify the current practice of waste biomass utilization and disposal
- Assess the potential for biomass waste collection and its cost
- Select the preferred pilot region(s) for development of use of waste biomass
- Suggest the business model for energy use of biomass in selected region(s)
The objectives of biomass promotion website include
- Promote the use of biomass for heating purposes in an attractive, user friendly manner
- Provide the information about consumers and potential business developers about the availability and types of biomass potentially suitable for energy use
- Provide the information about technologies and modern trends in biomass energy use
